Chester won 2-1.
Thinking back to the matches I attended last season I don’t think I actually covered a mid-week game at Moor Park. This season is naturally going to be different and I was at my first mid-week game this Tuesday night.
Admittedly I hadn’t checked the weather forecast until about an hour before leaving the house, yes I know that I normally check it a few days beforehand but for some reason I didn’t think I needed to. So the temperature was going to range between 16-21ºC, the first half was fine but I was glad I had my fleece for the second half as there was a bit of a breeze.
I did have a bit of a chuckle to my self before the match as I was standing near where the team sheet is put up for the fans to note down who is playing. It was about 20 minutes before kick off and the team sheet was put up. All the old boys got there programs and notebooks out to write down who was on the team sheet. I bided my time and just casually walked up to the sheet and took a photo of it on my mobile phone, bah modern technology.
Chester’s opposition had just been promoted to the Northern League’s and they were doing really well, in fact they 2nd in the league before the game. So the expectation for this match was good as I was hoping that Chester were going to turn over the ‘new’ boys.
Instead of going behind the goal line for the first half I went on the sideline just after the 18 yard box. The reason for this was just simply that the sun was very bright and was low as it was starting to set so I really wanted to have the sun behind me. The second half I went back behind the goal line but I wish that I had used the same plan as the first half as I would have had one of the floodlights behind me. As I had no direct light behind me I had to put the ISO right up to 6000 and the shutter speed down to 1/200s. Unfortunately the shutter speed ended up being too slow as some of the shots became blurry. Situations like this just really make me wish that I could afford that new lens so that I will have an f2.8 instead of a minimum of f5.
Even with all of that I did manage to get some decent shots and I have also put some of the not quite so good shots on my website, they are the ones that you can easily see as being grainy.
I was over the moon that Chester scored 2 goals in the first half as they were the better team however, I did miss the actual shots but that was because of the angle that I was at. Second half, well Heaton Stannington certainly dominated more but Chester stuck to the task and held on to the end. Chester did let in a goal from poor defending but after that they made sure that there wasn’t going to be a second goal.
As I am finishing writing this on Thursday night I am already looking toward this weekend and Gateshead’s home match against Hereford United. Yes I have checked the weather forecast and it seems that it is going to be very wet so I had better make sure I have my rain jacket to keep me nice and dry. I’m also debating on taking my mp3 player so that I can listen to a bit of light music during the match. Metallica or Iron Maiden may be in order.
