Gateshead FC vs Barnet FC, 17th August 2013
Gateshead (1) Barnet (2), this was Gateshead’s third defeat of the season and second one at home.
Barnet is managed by Edgar David’s one of football’s living legends but I did not see him on the sideline at all and I did not hear any word that he was even in the stand. From this I could only imagine that he was afraid of the glorious north eastern weather.
Speaking of the weather, I already knew what to expect as far as the weather was concerned as the forecast was for heavy rain at around 4pm. In that respect I didn’t get disappointed as there certainly was heavy rain at around that time. In fact looking at some of the photos you can see just how bad it was in the second half. It’s these conditions that make me glad that I have an op tech rain cover as although it’s a very cheap piece of equipment but does the job.
As I am still learning the trade (so to speak) it is always great to see some of my photos being used in the match day magazine. It has become a ritual now to go through the magazine to find my photos and I also repeat this later on when I get home. The one photography that I was looking forward to see the most was of Phil Turnbull’s goal celebration, it was the expressions on the players faces that made the photo for me (by the way it can be found on page 47).
The first half I made the opportunity to take photos of Gateshead’s defenders and there was quite a lot of chances to get them. I hadn’t previously got any decent shots of Adam Bartlett so I certainly attempted to make up for that and got several decent ones of him. Also I was able to get good shots of Ben Clark, Luke O’Brien and Joe Tait, up to this point the only photos I have of them were really from a distance.
I didn’t get many shots in the second half but as all of the Gateshead fans are aware there wasn’t that many attacking opportunities made by the team. Overall I am happy with what I got and I do know for the next match that I do need to clean the image sensor on my camera as on some photos there was dust showing.
18/08/2013 8.14pm, just an extra note after I have already published this post. It has been officially confirmed by Gateshead FC that Anth Smith tendered his resignation after the Barnet game and the chairman Graham Wood has accepted it. So this was Anth’s last game in charge and I personally wish him all the best for the future as he ain’t bad for a mackem.
