Ever since I was at the Consett AFC vs Newcastle United XI on the 15th May, I haven’t really done any sports photography. That’s not to say that I haven’t tried though as I did send emails to both Durham County Cricket Club and also Chester-le-Street Cricket Club to inquire about access to the grounds in order to take photo’s of the matches.
I never received any sort of a reply from Chester-le-Street CC however I did get one from the media manager at Durham CCC to arrange a meeting. Sounded positive but when I replied back and then a couple of weeks later tried to phone him I got no response at all.
Now, this would probably not mean much to a lot of people who are already established but as I am just starting off in the sports photography field I certainly don’t feel confident when it comes to dealing with professional teams in the future. It also because of this that I am glad I have a very good relationship with Gateshead FC.
Gateshead have made a few transfers during the summer and a couple of the lads that I got on with last season have left the club.
Ryan Donaldson has moved to Cambridge United, I should be able to go down there to watch him play there as I have a couple friends that live in the area so would make a good weekend away.
James Marwood, in my opinion he is a cracking player and at the time of writing this I don’t think he has a new club but I am sure that he will have a new one by the start of the season.
I certainly got to have a good rapport with both lads both on twitter and also after the games and I certainly wish them the very best of luck for the future.
Another player that has literally just left Gateshead is Josh Gillies, he had a good last season and he also got himself into the England C team. He has now moved up to League One team Carlisle United. I certainly wish him all the best as I believe he has a very big future ahead of him.
The sad part for me is that Gateshead have disbanded their Reserve team, so that means that I won’t have any matches where I am the only photographer. It does mean though that I will be attending more Northern League games.
So now I am in preparation for pre-season, most of the actual matches that I will be going to will be for Gateshead however, if one of my more local teams have an interesting pre-season game then I will make every attempt to attend it. Hopefully, the 2013/14 season will be a time for me to fully expand on the skills that I picked up during the 2012/13 season.
The new season may also mean that I will have to alter the galleries on my website so that the new season’s photos are easier to find.
To sum up in a few words how i feel about the start of the season.
BRING IT ON!!
